CAPED Summary

Last week, I was in Riverside for CAPED.  As explained before, I am part of the CHIIP Youth Advisory committee.  I was able to attend this conference and learn so much about resources, law, and activities in regards to disability/education.

I met with Martha Kantar.  Kantar spoke candidly about jobs within the federal government.  She said that there are open positions and that I should apply.  I let her know that I will be participating in the Workforce Recruitment Program.  This program allows for people with disabilities have an easier way to get into the federal government.  She applauded me for my work with youth.

Next, I heard Jonathan Mooney speak.  What a dynamic speaker!  He connected with me because of his energy.  One of things he said was: invest in people.
I believe in this to be true.

There were a lot of great workshops such as learning about implemanting a disability advocates program on your campus.  Then there was a workshop about thriving with autism lead by Steven Kapp.

Overall, it was great to get away and concentrate on my own progress.  I had some alone time to reflect.  I made contacts, great dialogue with friends, and an overwhelming good time.

"Moving On Up a Little Higher"

This week's meetings consisted of the Mayor of Santa Clarita and Professor Etienne of the Cinema Dept.  I will be featuring my documentary "Future in Hand" next semester.  Details will follow soon but this is will lead to more contacts as well.  Meeting with Mayor went well too.  We spoke about other venues like Senior Center and the Zonta Club.  I will be speaking at the Rotary Club in two weeks.

Next week I will attending the California Association for Post secondary Education and disability (CAPED) in Riverside.  Our annual advisory meeting for California Heath Incentives Improvement Project (CHIIP) will be meeting too.
If you don't hear from me till after next week, that is why.  Heres the link to the conference if you want to check it out: CAPED

Any comments, suggestions, or ideas please forward them my way.

Time can be replaced

People of accomplishment rarely sat back & let things happen to them. They went out & happened to things.

Today, again was progress in the future.  Made contact with the VP of Student Services at College of the Canyons to get more information on outreach.  Of course, he mentioned that lack of funds were an issue but still some glimmer.

Will be fasting soon for Yom Kippur

Next week - more meetings but things moving forward

Till the next time

I remain.

Todays Progress

Everyday is a move in the right direction.  I met with a school board member to speak in high schools.  She will put me in contact with all principals in the SCV area.  Also, I will speak at the anti-gang taskforce soon.  Friday, I will meet with the VP of Student Affairs at College of the Canyons to speak about outreach.

Elsewhere, I have started reading "The Secret."  One of the things that I enjoy from the book is the idea that things that you want to happen are already happening.  You must visualize the things you want.  I believe in this very much.

Will update again.  Thank you for being patient.

To the stars!

The Beginning of a New Venture

Public speaking always came easily to me.  Telling stories and encouraging people to go for their dreams gave me ammunition to continue to purse a dream in journalism.  With this new attitude, I have begun a business of motivation and empowerment.  I have concentrated my attention to high schools so their young minds can focus on life after high school.  My motto is that everyone story does matter.  Our stories will change the world.

I have been meeting with successful people who have inspired me to go forward with this plan of action.  This is a hub for events, quotes, recommendations etc. for me to post and get feedback from everyone.

This is a grand beginning and as always I will not give up.

Thank you for joining me on this great journey and I look forward to working with you soon.
